Apple 04:40
You're reaching out for apple seeds. It's sowing season once again. I hope you know that I grow slow; I appreciate your patience. The fruit I bear looks good to eat, but inside it's still hard and it might break off a tooth or three, so don't be too disheartened. But if you let me stay, you won't be disappointed by the wait. My fingertips are galaxies each universe divided each planet pulled down honest by the simplest of science. Don't misconstrue as apathy my state at gentle giant. While Newton slept, I bumped his head and when he broke the silence, he said, "If we spin through space then gravity is what we call this weight." By the way I wish you'd stay to pick up the pulp and to save what we're able to save to place upon your plate. I'll soon assume as apple sauce or live inside a pie that's been baked with care, no sliver spared, as I'm served up family style. And if you dare to taste, I hope that you'll forgive me. Please, promise you'll forgive me. I hope that you'll forgive me for the weight.

Shepherd 03:30
I thought that these mountains might be a nice way for you to escape from your day to day. It's more of the same followed by more of the same, followed by more of the same, you get the point I'm trying to make: You're lucky I love you, and I'm so lucky too. I get to walk each step alongside you. When we get home we'll surely need some rest. You'll count me down as I go to bed. And, "1-4-3," is all you said. I'll probably last longer than you, but every blade of grass I walk upon will remind me of you. And every mountain road that I traverse will remind me of you. I hope you know. I hope you really know that I love you.
3.
Cherry 01:06
You tasted maraschino cherries, but brother you forgot that cherries start off sour, so you're just sipping sauce. You forgot to say goodbye. You forgot to say goodbye. You forgot to say goodbye. You forgot.

Chicken Pot 03:10
Well here's the thing: I'm not afraid to die because I have lived a free and fruitful life. I haven't flown but God if I tried I think I might because I was built for this. I've seen kind hands and every flower ever sown. I've eaten seeds of every kind that's ever grown. Inside my bones I share the DNA of dinosaurs. I'm wishing the best for you. I hear you're having troubled times well I know what that's like because I've had mine too. But don't be so blue because all that you can do is control how you are you. And that's the only truth. Here's the thing: we all were born to die. If you think otherwise, then you're living a lie. Embrace the fact and then appreciate each minute more. (And I know, I know.) To lose my head will be an awful way to die and lose my memories of prehistoric times. They'll take the best of meat and shape me into dinosaurs.

Mixed Berry 02:02
6.
When life gives you lemons mix in meringue. Give your dentist some cavities to find. Because life's so short but incomplete, lest sweet dreams un-seam to bitter times. And please don't mind if you don't like the first bite. And you'll find in time you might.
7.
No Bake 01:20
I'm fine on my own but maybe if we get together then maybe we'll make something better than if we stay on our own. Let's sit. Let's see. Let's take some time to settle. Our chemistry is honestly a team worth waiting for.

Blueberry 02:12
You said someday we'd make something. We stored them in the freezer. When I went looking, when I went looking... You said someday we'd make something. We stored them in the freezer. When I went looking I saw nothing. The bag was empty because you made something without me. Without me. So now I'll do the same So now I'll do the same. Without you, my blue.
9.
Pumpkin 02:52
You could probably leave me on the ground. I'd survive a little while. My skin is tough as finger nails and I'm brighter than your smile. I'm an awkward shape for predators with sharp teeth and tiny hands. They'll nibble nibble at my outer shell and devour what they can. And you might let me know what it's like to be alive or to be filled with light. I'll scare away the worst of fears. No monsters in your house. Just let me rest on your front steps. I'm happy in or out. You'll never have to water me. I'm tied to the tides of time. I hope you'll find a use for seeds you find I leave behind. And you might let me know what it's like to be alive or to be filled with light.

Shoofly 03:41
Wouldn't you know it you're ruining my coffee. Lately you've been focused on the worst in everything. I don't want to be dismissive, but sometimes I need caffeine. Shoo fly, shoo fly don't bother me. Wouldn't you know it you were right about most everything. Lately I've been focused on the quest for clarity. I'm not for disappearing but I'm hoping someday I might leave. Should you fly away, would you fly away with me? Wouldn't you know it I'm writing off reality. And lately I've been focused on the truth but don't see anything. I'm not too disappointed I'm sipping on some positivity. Shoo fly, shoo fly please let me be. Shoo fly, shoo fly don't bother me.

Pizza 02:18
I might not belong here, but I'm still pretty good. You can have me however you want. I'm best served with friendship in circles or squares or in triangles out of the box. You might say I'm silly, some call me strange, but I know for sure that I'm not. I'm hot stuff, I'm popular, and I'm easy to share. And you're just jealous your crust isn't stuffed. You want another piece of me? Your eyes are too big for your teeth. And we can try to slice it either way: I'll try my best to satisfy your taste. I'll even forgive you if you don't finish me. I'll be there whenever you want. I'm happy to be here in good company your carbohydrate accompaniment. Your, Carbohydrate Accompaniment

about

I started these songs right before Thanksgiving 2018, went on a songwriting spree, abandoned them, and then dusted them off a month ago when I decided to finish the project in celebration of Pi Day. Writing a silly song about the life of an apple transforming from seed, to tree, to fruit, to pie kicked off my exploration to connect objects and images associated with pies to human experiences. I didn't realize pies could serve as vessels for songs about love, mortality, and friendship, but I guess you don't know until you try.

This is a collection of songs I'm incredibly grateful to share. I hope you also enjoy all 31:41 of music about Pie and so much more.

Thank you for listening!

Pi on forever!
